SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG) is ELDEX Asia 2019’s Skills Partner. As the national skills authority, SkillsFuture Singapore will be showcasing the Skills Frameworks for Healthcare and Social Service, as well as featuring quality training partners such as HMI Institute of Health Sciences, Singapore Institute of Technology’s Lean Transformation Innovation Centre, and Tsao Foundation. Current and future healthcare and social service professionals can tap on the Skills Frameworks to identify and acquire the necessary and emerging technical skills and competencies required to support their career pathways. The partners will also showcase programmes available to help build a skilled workforce that is essential to supporting Singapore’s fast growing healthcare and eldercare sectors.

HMI Institute of Health Sciences
HMI Institute of Health Sciences (HMI Institute) is a dedicated private provider of healthcare training in Singapore and one of two SkillsFuture Singapore appointed Continuing Education and Training Centres for the healthcare support sector since 2009. HMI Institute is owned by Health Management International Ltd, a healthcare company listed on the SGX Mainboard and with presence in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Myanmar.
HMI Institute's primary objective is to nurture students to become competent healthcare personnel equipped with a balance of theoretical and practical skills. Since 2001, HMI Institute has trained more than 5,000 graduates for the Singapore healthcare industry. HMI Institute also provides a wide range of emergency life support skills training courses for individuals from all walks of life, and has trained more than 296,000 individuals in life saving skills.
HMI Institute has developed close links with healthcare providers in Singapore to provide job placements for graduates of the Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) healthcare courses. The Institute also works closely with various Singapore government agencies to encourage more Singaporeans to embark on a fulfilling healthcare career path as healthcare and community care professionals. With an ageing society in Singapore, there is a growing demand for healthcare and community care roles as care providers cope with greater demand for these services.

Tsao Foundation
The Tsao Foundation’s vision is of an inclusive society for all ages that optimizes opportunities in longevity.
To advance a positive transformation of the ageing experience through mindset and systemic change, it pioneers approaches and demonstration models across a range of disciplines and actively engages in collaboration, research and advocacy in a multi-pronged strategy.
The goals of the non-profit family foundation, which was established in Singapore in 1993, are aligned to the MIPAA (Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing) and WHO’s healthy ageing frameworks.
The Foundation’s work is undertaken through four synergistic initiatives:
- Hua Mei Centre for Successful Ageing, a one-stop provider of person-centred, integrated medical and psycho-social primary healthcare services to adults from age 40, which pioneers sustainable and effective community-based age care models to optimize health and wellbeing over the life course and enable ageing in place
- Hua Mei Training Academy, which builds capacity in professional and informal community-based age care and enables self-efficacy and family caregiving through providing practitioner-driven training, education and consultancy services
- International Longevity Centre Singapore, which supports practice, policy and community development through initiating multisector collaborations and policy-relevant research as well as elder empowerment and participation programmes
- The Community For Successful Ageing (ComSA), a community-wide, ground-up approach to forge an integrated system of comprehensive programmes, services and enabling environments with the aim to promote health, wellbeing, personal growth and participation over the life course, and to build vibrant communities where all ages thrive.

Panel Discussion on Future of Jobs & Skills in Eldercare
In addition, SkillsFuture Singapore together with its training partners, there will be a two hour sharing and panel session on 8 November 2019 from 1000 hrs at the ELDEX Theatre in Halls 405/406 of Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre, on the current and changing landscape for the eldercare sector, emerging job roles and skills required. The panel will be moderated by Mr Calvin Chu, Partner, Eden Strategy Institute and the panelists include:
- Ms Peh Kim Choo, Chief Executive Officer, Tsao Foundation;
- Dr Michael Fung, Deputy Chief Executive (Industry); Chief Human Resource Officer; Chief Data Officer, SkillsFuture Singapore;
- Ms Chin Wei Jia, Group Chief Executive Officer, Health Management International Limited;
- Associate Professor Genedine Lim, Health & Social Sciences, Singapore Institute of Technology; and
- Ms Annie Barr, Chief Executive Officer, Annie Barr International.
Ms Barr, with her extensive experience as a practicing nurse within the National Health Service in the UK for over two decades, will share and add insights to the discussion from an international perspective.
